The victims of Jebres Demangan is sleeping in the street in front of their house

The eviction which was done in Jebres Demangan confiscating attentions from college students especially the activists (10/11). 

Waskita Cahya Subekti, one of the representative activists attended the meeting and consolidation with the victims in Central Jebres on Wednesday, October 24. Waskita was interviewed on various matters, ranging from eviction’s cause to eviction’s solution.

Question: What is your view of the eviction and its cause?

Answer: According to the procedure, the eviction was done arbitrarily because the police did not bring any authorization letter for eviction. The eviction’s victims were also paying for the land tax to stay in Jebres Demangan land. In terms of the eviction’s solution, no realization can’t be proved. 

What is your comment on the eviction’s solution given to the victim?

The solution which was given by the government in form of a flat and some money. Dimas Suro, one of the activists, surveying the flat and no room left for the victims. Also, the money did not immediately distribute to the victim yet.  

The victims did not want to move from the area because of the victim’s livelihood. The solution was not the best solution to give for the victim since they got more sufferance in this case. The government should meditate over the solution to the victims.

How the student’s activists help the victims of the eviction?

The Jebres Demangan Community against the eviction. Students from different faculties came here to give a hand. Giving supports for the victims, for example establishing tents and medical check-up for the victims, and one of law students intended to bring this matter to a lawyer.

Waskita said, “I'm a part of student external organization but I'm not here because of who and where I am. Even we are (students) from many different backgrounds and organizations, but we are here because of humanity”.
